Dr. LaSonya Moore is Special Education faculty member in the College of Education at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. Dr. Moore has been an active Alumni member for more than 15 years. As a college sophomore, she organized her campus Council for Exceptional Children student Chapter and initiated numerous campus activities to increase exceptional education awareness. Fall of 2003 Dr. Moore was awarded the USFSP Outstanding Senior Award, fall 2003, given the Outstanding Graduate Award in 2003, presented by, USF Alumni Association Pinellas County Chapter and awarded The USF Distinguished Alumni Under 35 in 2006.
Dr. Moore has experience as Assistant Principal, Behavior Specialist and as a secondary Exceptional Educator. She has earned degrees in special education, educational leadership, and urban special education leadership. She has worked districts and principals of k-12 schools to maximize the teaching and learning experience for all students and the ongoing organizational supports needed to retain urban educators. Her previous experiences have allowed her to initiate extracurricular mentoring, tutoring programs, create and implement school-wide classroom management processes, behavior management programs and increase the effectiveness of organizational processes that are directly related to student and teacher overall success (specifically students with disabilities’), as well as business and community partnerships. Dr. Moore is a co-founder of the National Urban Special Education Leadership Network (NUSELNET), a national network of progressive educational leaders in the field of Special Education. Dr. Moore’s professional interests are focused on Urban Special Education, Leadership and Retaining Urban Educators. She is dedicated to improving the educational outcomes of individuals with exceptionalities while improving opportunities for those who teach, lead and work side-by-side our student’s every day. |
Dr. Moore obtained her doctorate at the University of Central Florida in Urban Special Education and Leadership. She was interviewed as a Motivation for Learning and Performance professional. Her dedication to students and families go far beyond the classroom. She is actively engaged in CEC events such as, The Special Olympics, CEC Leadership and Legislative Summit, CEC Children Auction and numerous Chapter events. She has presented at National and International conferences focused on impoverished countries and students with disabilities.
She has served as an active external member of the Hispanic Outreach InterCultural Advocacy Institute. She has met with the UN Department of Public Information Outreach Division, Girl Rising, and UN Women to discuss international educational change policies. She is a 2013 Harvard Summer Scholar. She is an active member of the World Academy for the Future of Women (WAFW), Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), American Association of University Women (AAUW),& Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD). LaSonya is also a previously selected student at UCF for the 2014 & 2016 CGIU Commitment to Action. During May of 2017, Dr. Moore was selected as the Florida CASE (Council of Administrators of Special Education) Outstanding ESE Administrator of the Year. Her ability to connect cultural lines continues to drive her intrinsic motivation as a servant, transformative leader. Her servant leadership has given her opportunities to bridge cultural ability, economic, social and emotional gaps by being an active participant within and outside of her community. As an Urban Leadership in Special Educational (NUSELI) scholar, she prides herself on her desire and ability to change education on a national and international level by empowering diverse voices to resonate amongst the masses. |
